“With the introduction of completely new water sports and equipment Switzerland applies for the Summer Olympics 2010 on Lake Zürich. The University of Applied Sciences Aargau plays a crucial role in this…” This was the idea behind a project at FH Aargau which dealt with the development of new water sports.

The project started with an analysis of the questions: What makes a sport attractive, interesting? What attracts the attention of the media? What distinguishes individual from team water sports?

We looked at the history of the Olympic Games, at new forms of movement in, on, or under water, at devices that assist movement, at games, fun, and rules, at materials that can be used in the water and, at a later stage, with the associated manufacturing processes.

There were several conditions for the new sports and equipment: The equipment had to be worn directly on the body or had to be powered by the body; it should not be smaller than a glove nor bigger than the sportsman.
Development was based on models and numerous tests in the Aargau public pool.
